Since its founding in 2011, El Ingenio Teatro has been committed to educational arts programming for children and teenagers through Saturday, summer, and after-school programs in West Miami Center, Hialeah Center, The Hispanic Cultural Arts Center, and Centro Mater in Little Havana, Teatro Trail in Coral Gables, Raices, Women's Park in Kendall among others. We have partnered with Centro Mater since 2018 to develop a thriving art school program. The students have presented several performances, such as Esteban's Town and The Incredible Pets Club (2021), The Legends of Discovery (2020), and The Little Prince ( 2019), at the Koubek Center and Coral Gables Library. In the past years, through our educational programs, we have presented Beautiful Christmas (2021), Ukelele Story (2020), and Pinocchio (2019). Our bilingual language theater workshops and performances provide much-needed cultural engagement for many Latino immigrant children in Miami with low English language proficiency. Centro Mater Arts Education Project " program for 60 students, ages 6 to 12 years. From October to May at the Centro Mater 418 SW 4th Ave Miami, Fl 33130. Little Havana, and Downtown. Project activities will include theater, dance, music, and drawing. Participants will engage in painting, singing, dancing, acting, and makeup. Children learn through art activities how to improve their skills and use them in a theater production. This program in Little Havana helps pull children away from the street and entertain and educate them, avoiding potential danger in the neighborhood. Also, it is a great way to teach kids with low English language proficiency through theater!

El Ingenio Teatro is excited to present the most innovative musical theater summer camp in Miami-Dade County! El Ingenio will develop our camp in-person, fulfilling social distancing requirements and following Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) protocols).
The program will offer diverse artistic courses, professional performances, and a performance with live music at the Centro Mater! in Little Havana. Our students are exposed to top-notch artists and instructors who teach them about acting exercises, musical production, science experiments, musical composition, dance, makeup, and more artistic disciplines. The entire team at El Ingenio Teatro is so happy to welcome your child to our next camp!

From Dates: June 12 - August 11, 2022 (Monday through Friday)
Time: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Before Care: 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.
After Care: 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Location: Mater Center.
Families are responsible for transportation to and from the Centro Mater.
Full Scholarships: 20 Partial Scholarships: 10 Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis of financial need and interest in performing arts. Applicants must be Miami-Dade residents only.
Scholarships are provided based on eligibility criteria. All registration fees will be covered for scholarship recipients.

You will be notified by email at least one week before the first day of camp if you have or have not been awarded a scholarship.
Please note: Incomplete, late, or faxed applications will not be reviewed.
Scholarship recipients will be asked to complete a pre-program and post-program assessment. This is intended to document improved theater skills and positive peer relationships. Parents and camper grantees will also be asked to participate in a Client Satisfaction Survey at the end of the program. Names will be kept confidential if requested.

El Ingenio Teatro is committed to transmitting art and culture to younger generations. We started this program at the Trial Theatre in 2011; it has been committed to educational arts programming for children and teenagers through summer and Saturdays programs in West Miami Recreational Center, Hialeah Garden Center, The Hispanic Cultural Arts Center in Little Havana, Raices and Women's Park in Kendall among others. We have partnered with Centro Mater since 2017 to develop a successful art school program to commit to nurturing theater culture by preparing future theater artists through these educational art workshops.
Our programs target Spanish speakers with little English-language proficiency. ALL Workshop instructors are bilingual.
To be eligible participants will need to live or attend school/ground in Little Havana or nearby surrounding areas.
It is recommended for low-income families is preferred, yet not required.
Approximately 50 students Age 5-12, an equal number of boys and girls, will participate in our art workshops. All Kids are welcome and accepted into our program so long as they fit our age range.
KEY PERSONNEL
Lilliam Vega, the Program Director, is an actress, producer and theater director with over 30 years ' professional experience and dozens of plays, films, television programs, and other professional projects under her belt. She has had a long career in theater in Cuba, in TV in Venezuela as well as, an acting professor at Miami Dade College for ten years and working Theater Avante such as Resident Director for 12 years in Miami before founding El Ingenio INC in 2011. Since the beginning of her career, Ms. Vega has been in bringing theater education to young learners and has an extensive track record of teaching theater workshops at the Trail Theater and GEMS Summer Camp at Women's Park/Miller Park in Miami among others.
Last year Lilliam Vega was award to grant from Theater Communication Group to develop original work.

Centro Mater, is a not-for-profit child care center with 50 years of experience in quality best practice child care and educational programs, offering the expertise of a curriculum specialist (Certified teacher) utilizing resources referencing research-based social Skills curriculum. They also count on the expertise of a mental health specialist (psychologist) and a social-worker which is a licensed therapist. With The collaboration of these professionals, we can help define and monitoring tools to adjust our social development target goals to ensure successful integration and relationship building of our students.
Children need to learn theater arts because the theater is a kind of fiction which recreates reality and its characters. It allows us to play roles and learn through art to deal with our self-doubt, weaknesses, fears, and vulnerabilities; It builds self-esteem and mutual respect. Because of this, we have decided to provide in Centro Mater an after-school program of workshops for children in which students practice and discover the many artistic disciplines that theater encompass.
These disciplines include visual and performing arts such as painting, music, singing, movement, acting, makeup, and other creative practices, as well as the socialization and problem-solving skills that are naturally learned during the process of producing a play and Working creatively in a group. The tradition of theater is an inexhaustible source of discovery and education, and children learn through fun activities on how to improve skills in many areas. Our instructors bring years of experience to the learning process. It is vital to provide a great experience so that our students will want to return.
The final presents will be: In December, "Beautiful Stories for Children" written by Ph. D. Yanitzia Canetti and In May "The Journey," an original play, written for Ph.d. Raquel Carrio and dedicated to the Orange, the official symbol of Florida. This play will be enjoyable for the whole family.
